Queer comercial events asking to perform for free

Got yet another invitation to perform for free in a comercial and so-called-queer event. People: queer means resistance to any form of discrimination AND exploitation. You can't call a party queer, sell tickets and hectoliters of beer and ask people to perform for free!

An event organiser asked me recently to perform for free in a comercial queer party. I would get drinks for free and the chance to promote my event in their website. Below a translation to english of my answer.

"Thank you for your (relative) interest in my work. In case you want to know more, feel free to ask.

I like and really enjoy to perform for free in non-comercial community-oriented events. In events which are either comercial and/or admissions costs money and/or drinks are sold I want to be paid, even if is not a fortune, or even a symbolic contribution. (Question: are the DJs, bartenders and sound technicians also working for free?)

Thanks for your offer of publicity of my work in your webpage, but I am already relatively known in the circles of interest that connect to the themes of my work.

Bottomline, I dont think it is fair or even "queer" not to pay people who contribute to a comercial party (be it the bartenders, performers or DJs). Maybe you dont have to pay,  because you dont know how much revenue you are making, but you can propose a participation on the revenue? Queer means for me (And for a great majority of people) resistance to any form of discrimination AND exploitation, and that means being consistent and fair to people who contribute to a comercial event.

Let's stay in contact for eventuel future events, I am open to reasonable offers regarding performances, bondage or video art, and now you know where to find me.

best regards, etc.."

Placing the Safe on Safe-places: on the screening of Save the Place at Entzaubert 2012, part 2

Some ramdom thoughsts. by no particular order.

for a tentatively objecive descritpion on the incident at Entzaubert festival on the evening of the 3.8.2012 see my post here: "Placing safe on safe spaces". Comment moderation is enabled to avoid the usual internet spam, but I will publish everything which is not offtopic.

For those (like me) who think that "art" is anything which is created by human beings with some type of intention beyond a prurely funtional one, and feel unconfortable with the pomp and circunstance associated with the word "art", I will use the word stuff* instead

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a difference between intention and interpretation. Actually I think what makes stuff* interesting is that it can tell several stories, have different symbols for different people.

There is a difference between intention and interpretation. Of course if you (as an artist) have a significant number of people seeing things in your work you did not want to depict, maybe you want to look again at your work.

There is a difference between depicting violence and promoting violence or appologising violence.

I will continue to commit to the queer safe places as defined originally many years ago: safe places actively free from violence and discrimination, through self reflection and social responsability. I dont believe that stopiing to address or depict violence is a part of this. Other wise we can erase all discussions on racism and discrimination.

It is definetely a good idea to be considerate and avoid retriggering or re-hurting trauma, pain, putting salt on wounds etc. It is a good idea to do this independent of any rules on trigger there might be, only based on the fact that we tendendially want to be considerate, correct, and put other people in a fluffy place and not in hell.

Age ratings,  objective descriptions of films/works and trigger warnings are probably some tools which if correctly used might help achieve the former. I like a couple of them more than others, and e.g. dont really believe in trigger warnings, rather prefering objective descriptions in order for me to choose to see it or not.

If you as artist are submitting a work to a venue, be sure to know what the policiy on triggers are, so that you can help them with a better description or eventually with trigger warnings: so that it doesnt backfire on you or the organizators.

If you are organize an event and you want to have a trigger warning policy, make it explicit so that people can decide if they want to submit their works at all, ad so that people who submit their works might have a chance to provide a good description for the elaboration of descriptions and evtl trigger warnings.

Independent of safe spaces, but specially for safe spaces it is a good idea that discussions that go beyond the personal level in general get moderated, with some usual rules: no personal attacks tolerated, no interrupting, time limit, everybody should have the opportunity to make a point or refute a point (within time limits).

there is a difference between protecting and nurturing victims and disembalancing the discussion by giving a weight, and giving different rules (like, the possibility to shout, interrupt, be aggressive) to a person who takes the role of a victim.

It is possible to accomodate people with different needs. It is desirable to do this. Safe place or not. It is about how we want to live. We need to think how, and to make it happen. But we cant do this at the cost of aggressive behaviour, because this is sacrificing one ideal to achieve the same ideal.

One of things worring me in this discussion: it is creating an "anti censorship" reaction, where all arguments on being considerate and accomodating different needs are being overruled.

There is a difference between protecting victims or creating a safe space for victims, and making politics with this.

If you are indeed interested in doing somethign about people with trauma before instrumentalising it for politics, start by reading this:
http://www.heal-post-traumatic-stress.com/help-PTSD-sufferer.html
http://www.mind.org.uk/help/diagnoses_and_conditions/post-traumatic_stress_disorder

starting a discussion about rape depiction in a spontaneous way where none was planned actually can and will trigger a lot of people who did not prepare for this and were not wishing to be confronted with this.

There are a lot of people with trauma. There are many triggers. It is probably worth mentioning if stuff* has violent content susceptible to re-enact pain and trauma. But you will never be able to cover all triggers. While I dont really believe in triggere warnings (rather believing in warnings about violent content), if you want to have trigger warnings dont assume you know everything about other people´s triggers, and try to formulate in a way that doesnt backfire: to you as organizer, to the stuff* makers and to your audience.

People with trauma need support. That doesnt entitle them, or anyone, to engage in aggressive or unacceptable behaviour.

There are interesting political things to be done on trauma. Trauma therapy is usually difficult to access to people with other discrimination issues: migrants, kinksters, polyamorous, left-political-scene.. either because some of those topics get pathologised, or addressed as "difficult" due to being so specific, leading to a refusal by the therapist. Might also be dependent of what type of health insurance you have.

I would personally would like to see more done about handling with trauma at a personal level- workshops, information events, talking rounds - in the queer scene. Are we aware? do we kow the symtoms of trauma? did we read about it? do we know how to deal with it? do we know the authorities who can help with that?

the politization of trauma is forcing many people to out themselves as traumatized, in order to be able to participate in a discussion where you get a different voice depending if you choose the victim side or not. Forcing or driving somebody or a group to out themselves is not safe nor desirable.

The word "victim" is manyfold, and complex. And to label someone as victim (or ally) doesnt make the argumentation above easier. Actually it makes it very problematic. I am aware of this as I wrote the previous 2 paragraphs.

There is a difference between getting feedback, no matter how demolishing in its content - for which most stuff* makers are always thankful - and getting personally attacked, interrupted, silenced.

Asking somebody who is behaving in an unreasonable way to calm now is not silencing a victim. No reasonable respectful discussion can take place while everybody is not back to their senses, victim or not.

An interesting ever-returning topic. Allies. And speaking in the name of others.

Placing the Safe on Safe-places: on the screening of Save the Place at Entzaubert 2012

This post is commiting to try to be a descriptive and objective text on the incident at Entzaubert festival on the evening of the 3.8.2012. Feel free to comment, correct or complete this description. Comment moderation is enabled to avoid the usual internet spam, but I will publish everything which is not offtopic. I will aboundantly comment and give my opinion in a separate post.

Save the place, or the tragic end of a real-estate agent, was screened as the opening film at the "collective block" from Entzaubert festival   last friday.

Here the link to the film´s synopsis, and the youtube links. The film has a very liberal CC  licence, so feel free to distribute the link aboundantly, and feed the discussion with your contributions, information, insight and gasoline.

http://www.lube-nomads.blogspot.de/2011/09/save-place.html
http://strangesavagelives.net.tc (official, but still under construction)

During the screening one person erupted to protest that the film depicted sexual violence and that it should not be screened in a queer place. The film was nevertheless quite applauded after the screening(s).

Afterwards, during the Q&A session with me and Lun (one of the other "Save the 'Place" authors) and other filmmakers on the stage, the same person grabed the microfone and repeated the same argumentation, that sexual violence should not be present at Entzaubert festival . Other people had things to say, and tried to get into the discussioon, specially (from the stage perspective) a group in the front row, at the right handed side, but they never had the chance to get their point heard (if you read this, I and others would like to know what you have to say).

I grabed the microfone to say that (1) there was never the intention to depict sexual violence, from any of the persons involved in the film. (2) that if this caused any suffering that it was definetely never our intention (3) that the film is a satire, and not an appology of any type of violence.

The people from the orga at the stage had a hard time bringing the discussion down, stating that during the selection they did not see "Save the Place" as a sexually violent film, rather seen as satire and definetely not as violence appology,  and that art is subjective, interpretations being in the eye of he beholder. It was then proposed to halt the current discussion and to continue it at a latter point, as the current discussion had stalled at the same point over and over, with accusations flying on that there was indeed an intention to represent rape and that our - at some point quite loud and impatient- refusal to further discuss this exact point after the disclaimer above was taken as silencing a victim.

Me and Lun spent the night exhausting ourselves in discussing and answering people´s questions, in separate private discussions. During this, I (and a lot others) noticed that very few people seemed aware that there was *not* a trigger warning policy neither an age rating statement in the program the entzauber festival, but at the same time argumenting as this would be a matter of fact.

The next couple of days the focus of the whole discussion moved in the direction of the (curational) need or not of having trigger warnings in queer festivals, and in the queer community and if Entzaubert festival will want to have a trigger warning in future events.

Tuesday (7.8.2012) there has been a feedback round which shoud deal with these topics where I was not present (N.T. for not being able to deal with what could become yet another very violent discussion). Discussion is anyway going on at several informal channels. I will complete this post with links and texts if/when they are provided.

Post containing comments and musings will follow.

Thanks for reading!

A review from Arse Elektronika

A review from Arse Elektronika (by Ann Antidote)
(complete text to be found in the Krake 2012)
Arse Elektronika is a compilation of texts and presentations from the conference with the same name, organized by Vienna-based collective Monochrom. “We may not forget that mankind is a sexual and tool-using species. And that’s why Monochrom’s conference Arse Elektronika deals with sex, technology and the future. As bio-hacking, sexually enhanced bodies, genetic utopias and plethora of gender have long been the focus of literature, science fiction and, increasingly, pornography, this anthology sees us explore the possibilities that fictional and authentic bodies have to offer. ” reads the manifest.

One grey day in November I found an envelope containing this book with both “the Krake” and my name on it, due to an avalanche of chances. Browsing this book in a hurry I recognized electronic diagrams and lines of code, quite familiar from my previous life as an engineer, I caught words like sex, gender, hacking, control theory, feminist pornography, kink, body extensions. I had immediate flashbacks of one of my favorite books, “The Cities of the Red Night” by William Burroughs, and it was not before long that I found, selbstverständlich, his name, his imaginary and even his writing style quite present all over this book. “Ok, I just have to write about it”, I thought.

At a first glimpse, Arse Elektronika appears to be a book that demands you are an engineer or a geek in order to understand it. It isn't, it is a book that asks more or less politely from you that you believe that you don't have to be engineer to understand its main topic - the interconnections between technology, humanism and therefore our sexual boundaries, our identity boundaries, their reflection in social matrix, and possibilities to extend those - or be inspired by it, to be challenged by it.

If I had to explain in a nutshell what is inside this book, I would start by listing examples on how technology, not only recently, has changed our bodies, our sexuality and therefore our society. There are people out there living with artificial limbs, with more or less neuronal control; people who modify their body to accommodate it to their gender identity via surgery and/or hormonal intake; saying tender words to our absent loved ones - like we do now on the telephone or on skype - would be unthinkable some centuries ago. In these almost every day life examples, we see how technology was used to solve a problem or fill a hole, and how our bodies, emotions and society integrated it. Now, if we use this as a starting point, what if we all sit together and try to think what other possibilities are out there, and what could they do to our life, our sexuality, and our concept of humanity? Would you like to have an embedded LCD display on your arm showing you -real time- your lover´s heart, beating? Would you build a DIY set for having remote, intercontinental, sex with one of your lovers, transmitting most of seeing, sensing, hearing sensations? What about computer controlled electrical sexual titillation? And most of us used the internet to find polyamorous like-minded peers, right? Would you like to add an extra pair of arms to your torso? What about Krake-like tentacles? And how would society accommodate this? Would it be more variety-friendly? Would this press hetero-sexism out of the picture? Would it still be regarded as human? Ethical?

Arse Elektronika is an exploratory book which will leave questions unanswered, for the interested reader to look further for the answers. It will eventually inspire you and show you the principles on how to build the mentioned DIY remote sex set or the so-called pussy pad, but it is not a “how to” manual. The manual, the actual set, and the identities and societies you will be living in with it will have to be constructed by you.

OpenCon: evento poly auto-organizado

A 3-day event in the English countryside for everyone who knows that happy and honest relationships don't have to be monogamous. OpenCon combines discussions, workshops and socialising to give you a chance to meet like-minded people, to build our community and to celebrate its diversity

Para quem me tem perguntado "O que é um evento auto-organizado", gostei bastante desta explicação

OpenCon is a hybrid conference--unconference. That is, run by the participants as well as by a team of organisers.

The set-up team will sort out the venue, and help with room placements, set a structure to the event and organise some workshops. Much of the rest is up to you as a community.

The basic ethos of this event is that you are discouraged from saying "somebody should do X", but you are encouraged to say "I’ll do X", and then do it. There are no organisers to complain to/applaud. If you want it to happen, make it happen. By coming along you agree to become one of the event’s co-organisers, doing what ever has to be done to ensure your fellow attendees have an enjoyable and safe weekend.

A resolu

Poly no teatro: projecto Bread and Water e Lambda Project

Olivia Newton-John, "Why can't the three of us live together?"

Olivia Newton-John, "Culture Shock"
"Why can't the three of us live together?"

(S. Kipner/P. Bliss)

I've been trying to tell you
I've been putting it off, putting it off
Can't wait any longer
You've been good to me
And that only makes it harder
To say what I gotta say

You gotta know I didn't plan it
It was the last thing on my mind
How can you love two people at the same time?
Now I don't wanna lose you
But I can't give him up

I know it's unconventional
Radical but practical
Why can't the three of us live together?
It's a culture shock
But it's the only hope we've got
Tell me, why can't the three of us live together?

If I could go back and undo it
If I had a time machine
I'd make it unhappen like a bad dream
But honey, you gotta know, I didn't plan it
It was the last thing on my mind
How can you love two people at the same time?
Now I don't wanna lose you
But I can't give him up

I know it's unconventional
Radical but practical
Why can't the three of us live together?
It's a culture shock
But it's the only hope we've got
So,tell me, why can't the three of us live together?

You're not taking this too well
It's out of the question
I can tell
It's not gonna work, is it?

I know it's unconventional
Radical but practical
I don't wanna lose you,no
But I not gonna give him up
It's a culture shock
But it's the only hope we've got
Tell me, why can't the three of us live together?

I know it's unconventional
Radical but practical

Terre & Maggie Roche, "You're The Two"

Terre & Maggie Roche, "You're The Two"

You're the two that I want
You're the two that I want
Some girls'll settle for just one
They don't know what they're missin' they ain't havin' any fun
You're the two that I want

Jane told Betty she saw me last night
She had her socks shocked off but she was tryin' to be polite
We were arm in arm in arm and that just didn't seem right
I was walkin' with my babies in my high heel shoes
Havin' so much fun I nearly lost my blues

.
You're the two that I want

He's a big strong boy he can bust out of chains
Says what he means he don't play no games
But you what you're missin' in muscle you make up for in brains
Between you two I got my two hands fullI got one to push and another one to pull
Two that I want

I can't believe this is happenin' to me
I'm just about as happy as a girl can be
With all this lovin' I feel wild and free
Maybe I should press my luck and try for three

My Boyfriend's Girlfriend isn't Me

My Boyfriend's Girlfriend

There's lots of kinds of people in this world
and I'm, well, I'm not like other girls
How do I explain this properly?
My boyfriend's girlfriend isn't me.

Well obviously one of them is...
But there's another girl of his
And I know her and she knows me

and that would be great if it was just us three.
But she has a guy who's even more pretty
and a long-distance thing in another city
He and his wife come by when they can and they have a kid who calls me his aunt.
Just when I thought it was all too crazy I tried to draw our family tree.
There's nothing wrong with extra love
But the paper wasn't big enough.

Chorus:
Of all the ways I've ever dated
it's never been so complicated
The chain can extend to eternity
'cause my boyfriend's girlfriend isn't me.

We spent Christmas eve with my boyfriend's dad
Christmas day with my folks and the feast they had
New Years, he went to his girlfriend's city
I mean the one who isn't me.

She brought him and her other guy
to her company picnic and I won't lie
I wasn't used to being alone
so I want someone new of my own.

It isn't easy to find a fling
'Cause when you hit on some tasty thing
They say "Aren't you with that guy?"
You say "Oh he doesn't mind.

Have you ever seen 'Big Love'?
Know what I mean, wink, wink, nudge, nudge..."
And they say "Oh, so you're a Mormon?"
"No! ...I'll explain from the beginning..."

Chorus When the partners get together,
the primaries and all the others,
we give the newbies a little primer
and we all get out our day timers

Calendars as far as the eye can see.
"When can I see you?"
"When are you free?"
"Who gets me on my birthday?"
and then "Does anyone have an extra pen?"

The kids have the best celebration.
Gifts from three dozen odd relations.
There's Uncle Jackie's girlfriend, Mary,
Ed who is her secondary...

Ed's new boyfriend brought along his ex,
whose fling is going strong with someone
that I used to know
and just became my boyfriend's beau...

Chorus
A couch where four can snuggle up
Suddenly isn't big enough
And even so we don't give up.
There's no such thing as too much love.

Sting: if you love someone set them free

Como é possivel que me tenha escapado a música mais polyóbvia da história da geracao rasca?

Sting, If you love someone set them free...

"If You Love Somebody Set Them Free"

If you need somebody, call my name
If you want someone, you can do the same
If you want to keep something precious
You got to lock it up and throw away the key
If you want to hold onto your possession
Don't even think about me

If you love somebody, set them free

If it's a mirror you want, just look into my eyes
Or a whipping boy, someone to despise
Or a prisoner in the dark
Tied up in chains you just can't see
Or a beast in a gilded cage
That's all some people ever want to be

If you love somebody, set them free

You can't control an independent heart
Can't tear the one you love apart
Forever conditioned to believe that we can't live
We can't live here and be happy with less
So many riches, so many souls
Everything we see we want to possess

If you need somebody, call my name
If you want someone, you can do the same
If you want to keep something precious
You got to lock it up and throw away the key
If you want to hold onto your possession
Don't even think about me
If you love somebody, set them free

Filme: Futurama, The Beast with a Billion Backs

Tem poly lá dentro, e poly-humor também:

Futurama, the beast with a billion Backs

"and Fry starts a new relationship with a girl named Colleen. However, it is not long before he realizes that Colleen has four other boyfriends all at once. Fry is unable to accept how she can't settle for one man and breaks up with her"

"Yivo admits that mating with everyone in the universe was its original intention, but explains that it is now truly in love with them"

"Everyone laments how they will never know love or happiness with Yivo again. Bender assures them that what they experienced was not love, as love doesn't share itself with the world, or so he claims. Bender shares his love with Fry and Leela by giving them a big hug, which strangles them."
I am one, sir, that comes to tell you your daughter and the Moor are now making the beast with two backs).

Just Different!14.06 - 21.09 2008'

Just Different!' is the challenging title of this exhibition about sexual desire, gender and identity construction in the visual arts. Disregarding for the moment the heterosexual dominance of our daily life, it addresses instead alternative life styles, such as homosexuality and transsexuality. In over 100 artworks by 47 national and international artists, the exhibition gives an impression of the sheer wealth of images yielded by the exploration of sexual identity.Epitomising the exhibition will be the nine-metre high monumental statue of David by Hans-Peter Feldmann, which is installed on the square outside the Cobra Museum of Modern Art. It is an iconic piece that symbolizes sexual diversity and freedom, but above all pleasure. It is just different.

International Female Masculinities Seminar
September 5 & 6, 2008
Amsterdam School for Social science Research
University of Amsterdam

The international Female Masculinities seminar is a two-day transdisciplinary conference convened by Prof. Saskia Wieringa (UvA) and co-convened by Prof. Evelyn Blackwood (Purdue University). We would like to take this opportunity to invite students, academics and activists to the seminar, which will take place on September 5 and 6 at the University of Amsterdam.

Researching Female Masculinities
Gradually a world wide academic interest in transgender issues has come into focus. However, gender ambiguity in women has generally been marginalized. These issues have hardly been studied from an interdisciplinary and cross cultural perspective.Female masculinity poses pertinent questions on identity, subjectivity, the body and gender, particularly on the dominant forms of gender binarism. This seminar aims to bring international specialists in the field of female masculinities together to share their knowledge and discuss future plans.

We hope to reflect on fundamental questions concerning heteronormativity in societies and the construction of dominant masculinities. Furthermore, the construction of femininity in relation to gender transgressive individuals and their negotiation of both masculinity and femininity in diverse cultural formations will come to the attention. In this way, we intend to look at gender and sexual ambiguity from a cross cultural, historical and interdisciplinary perspective.

The representation of female masculinity- Identity and subjectivity- The body, embodiment and health- Sexuality and violence- Female masculinity and same-sex relationships

black tape for a blue girl: all my lovers

All my lovers[black tape for a blue girl]

All my lovers
All my lovers
I'm above him looking into his eyes
Clutching him tight
He touches my hair, touches my breast
I feel him inside me
I devour him
All my lovers
My lovers help me brush away deception from my path
Back to a place where thoughts are pure
Nothing to hideIn his arms, the freedom I feelI see clear to my soul
And I don't love you less
Because of them

I don’t need you less
When I feel his caress
All my lovers
All my lovers
Some spend the night overanalyzing
But open your eyes
And look all around
Have you ever noticed
The beautiful things
Dancing right in front of you swirling in the translucent light
just waiting for you to take one by her hand...
All my lovers All my lovers All my lovers All my lovers

Fracturing Discrimination - Lisbon, LGBT Pride March Manifesto, 2008

Fracturing Discrimination

Lisbon, LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) Pride March Manifesto, 2008

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (lgbt) pride exists in contrast to the shame that prejudice and discrimination tries to impose on us. We are proud because even amid so much insult, we are able to find pride in our identity and go against the closets of silence, fear and invisibility. Because the street sets the stage for all struggles and celebrations of diversity and visibility of our love, we want to show that in no way do sexual orientation and gender identity diminish who we are nor make us better than anyone else.

We are proudly accompanied today by people who are worried about human rights and who are fighting against sexist, homophobic, transphobic, racist and xenophobic discrimination which compromises the quality of our democracy.

The right to full citizenship, independent of sexual orientation and gender identity is not a "fracturing question" but rather "fracturing" is the existing discrimination in our laws and society that make lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people second class citizens by default.

We want a society that equally honours and recognises the diversity of family models by law, because family is a free choice of individuals; a space for affection and lives to be lived in common, the state should not privilege any one family model to the determent of others. Therefore we demand that the constitution be upheld and honoured with regards to article 13 and so that civil marriage can stop being an exclusive privilege for "people of the opposite sex". That the possibility of adoption and be extended to all people and couples meeting the necessary conditions to be able to care for children. That artificial insemination be a possibility to all women who want it, regardless of their sexual orientation and whether or not they are in a relationship, because our families already exist and nothing justifies their lack of legal recognition.

"Fracturing" is therefore the current discrimination in the law that refuses equal recognition of relationships and family planning of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people.

We demand that legislative measures be taken to efficiently fight inequality of gender that persists and seems to be getting worse in our country. We demand women be granted full access to equality at work and in public space. We demand gender violence and discrimination be eradicated once and for all. We also demand gender identity be contemplated to the Principals of Constitutional Equality and legal measures be taken to recognise transsexual and transgendered self-determination in order to facilitate name and gender changes of national identity status and documents and speed up the medical physical adaptation process. "Fracturing" is the current legal void that obliges transgendered people to endure a long medical and judicial process, perpetuating discrepancies between physical appearance and legal documentation, opening the way to various types of discrimination in areas such as access to education, work and health.

Let us not forget that the state has particular responsibilities in the perpetuation of discrimination such as: through the Portuguese Institute of Blood refusing donations by men who have had sex with other men; allowing for prejudice to override whatever objective criteria and going as far as putting at risk all and every person needing a blood transfusion by compromising the adequate quality of blood collection.

It is fundamental to bet on effective prevention of biased influence by way of policies which promote equality of gender and combat discrimination and violence in all its forms. It is therefore imperative that State agencies and sectors such as health, education justice and security receive adequate and specific training so as we may have a more plural and secular society that knows how to live with diversity and how to combat fractures generated by discrimination.

We all and youth in particular have the right to inclusive and realistic education. Education where sexual education is supported by knowledge and scientific fact, education based on a non-heterosexist mould that deals with sexual orientation and gender identity, allowing for the prevention of discrimination to which we are subjected to in our everyday public and private lives.

We are people of varied origins, convictions; in possession of different knowledge and life experience. Today we are gathered on the street with heads held high knowing that the future depends on that we know to make of it.

I've Got Five Moms And Three Dads

Continuando a série de músicas poly ou polypertinentes..

Tom Hunter, "I've Got Five Moms And Three Dads",
http://www.peteralsop.com/EbenezersMakeOver.htm#FiveMoms

We all live in a big old house
8 adults, 6 kids and one pet mouse
2 dogs, 3 cats and a parakeet
We got a great big garden and we never eat meat
My room’s upstairs and down the hall
It’s the one with the crayons all over the wall
3 other kids share the room with me
We’re just one big crazy family
And I’ve got 5 moms and 3 dads
It may sound strange, but it ain’t so bad
When you get tired of one, you can go find another
It’s a whole lot better than one dad and mother.

It’s not as confusing as it might be
At least I know which mom and dad had me
But some of the adults wonder if it’s okay
To go on raising their kids this way
I keep saying everything’s just fine
‘Cause mostly we have a pretty good time
It’s hard to explain just what you missed
If you’ve never had a home like this
Where I’ve got (Chorus)

I suppose some day when I’m all grown up
They’ll take a survey to see if I’m screwed up
Asking all of us hippie kids
What we think of what our parents did
I’ll have to ask which parents they mean
I’ve got a whole lot more than most kids I’ve seen
And if we haven’t solved all the problems yet
At least we’ve come up with a whole new set!
‘Cause I’ve got (Chorus)

So come on by and visit us
We’re the house with the black VW bus
There’s a swing out front and a beat up car
And a beer sign from some western bar
Sunday is our potluck night
Whatever you can bring, it’ll be alright
There’ll be games and songs and food and jokes
I’ll introduce you to all my folks,
I’ve got (Chorus)
